In Medan, Indonesia, a silent green revolution is transforming public transport. To enhance local public transportation and support global energy-saving and emission-reduction initiatives, the Medan Transportation Authority has recently acquired 60 high-end battery electric buses from HigerBus. This batch of buses represents the flagship offering of Higer's sixth-generation Azure series of intelligent networked city buses. As Medan's first batch purchase of battery electric buses, this project represents Indonesia's largest bus acquisition from a single brand.
The hand-over took place during a grand ceremony at Merdeka Square, marking the delivery and launch of 60 Higer battery electric buses. Bobby Nasution, Mayor of Medan, officials from the Medan City Transportation Agency, and Jiang Haifeng, the Overseas General Manager of Higer Bus were present at the ceremony. Eager residents from across the city gathered enthusiastically to witness this landmark event. Bobby Nasution officially announced that the buses are now in operation at the ceremony. The Medan City Transportation Agency has distributed 4500 bus cards to residents for use. The launch of the 60 zero-emission battery electric buses is set to significantly enhance residents' quality of life and positively impact environmental protection. Subsequently, all buses in Medan will be gradually replaced by battery electric vehicles, making it the first city in Indonesia to achieve 100% electrified public transport. Each bus showcases the iconic design of Higer's sixth-generation
Azure series, with the distinctive "V" shape. The vehicles boast a lavish interior, featuring a premium driver's seat and 24 luxurious soft passenger seats, ensuring a comfortable experience for both drivers and passengers. The ECAS II system equipped in each bus can properly regulate the vehicle height and inclination by adjusting the suspension so that passengers can get on and off conveniently. In particular, the tilting mode fully considers passengers in wheelchairs and strollers. At the central double doors, there is a wheel chair guide ramp and two designated seats for disabled passengers, significantly enhancing accessibility for those with mobility challenges. Tailored to the local climate, the vehicle features aluminium alloy wheels, aluminium alloy air reservoirs, and stainless steel handrails, all aimed at boosting corrosion resistance. In the realm of after-sales service and maintenance, Higer has established specialized service centers in Indonesia.
